Alnwick Coast
An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with long silver beaches - especially at Amble (Hauxley), Warkworth, Alnmouth, Embleton and Beadnell - are complemented by stunning castles and delightful coastal villages. One of our favourite easy walks is 1.5 mile from the car park at Craster to the crags at Dunstanburgh Castle. Amble is where there are summer boat trips to the TSPB Coquet Island sanctuary. Warkworth has a fantastic, massive and accessible castle almost totally enclosed in a loop of the Coquet river. Alnmouth used to be a great harbour before a storm changed the river course, great beaches especially for children. Alnmouth station is on the east coast mainline. Beadnell bay is stunning backed by the limestone kilns near the newly restored harbour. The coastal Low Newton village with its square of fishermans' cottages is in the care of the National Trust.

Alnwick Country
Stretches from Alnwick, voted "Best place to live in Britain" by Country Life Magazine, with its famous gardens and castle, through Coquetdale to Rothbury and the Breamish valley. The drive from Alnwick to Rothbury is one of our favourites and passes Cragside. Thropton has great views to the Simonside Hills.

Berwick & The Coast
Berwick has changed hands 14 times between England and Scotland - the football club plays in the Scottish League. Berwick is dominated by its massive Elizabethan Ramparts as well as the bridges over the Tweed. There is also a Lowry painting trail. The coastal highlights are dominated by Holy Island (Lindisfarne) reached by the exciting tidal causeway. Ask for details of our full day geological walk. Seahouses is your centre for the boat trips to the Farne Islands and Bamburgh has a magnificent castle, beach and church. Further north is Budle Bay, a huge shallow estuary and the deserted Ross and Goswick sands, a quiet haven for both people and birds.
